Alex Rickards
You’ve now been introduced to Steven Bailey, Matt Bartle & David Blanchard in our Meet the Team series, which leads us on to Alex Rickards, Regional Technical Manager – North for Turfix
With an impressive career rooted in sports turf management, Alex joined the Turfix team as a Turfix Service Operator in January 2024. His role quickly expanded to operating the Turf Tank, where he marked pitches across the country with precision. His dedication and expertise led to a promotion to Regional Technical Manager for the North of England, where he’ll continue to assist and support grounds teams across the region.
Before embarking on his turf management career, Alex worked as a chef for Wetherspoons, showcasing his versatility. After deciding to shift his focus, he went back to college to pursue a Level 3 in Sports Turf at Myerscough College, which laid the foundation for his future in groundskeeping.
Alex’s professional journey includes working as part of the Wimbledon grounds team, where he contributed to 10 Wimbledon Championships, a Davis Cup tie, and even the 2012 Olympics. He later moved to the Renaissance Club, where he played a key role in preparing the course for multiple Men’s and Women’s Scottish Opens. Finally, before joining Turfix, Alex brought his expertise to professional football, working as a Groundsman for Morecambe Football Club.
His experience, combined with his passion for turf management, makes him an invaluable resource for any grounds team. If you have any queries, Alex is the person to call!
In his free time, Alex is an avid sports fan and enjoys watching everything from cycling to football (when his kids allow it). He’s also run the London Marathon and participated in half Ironman triathlons, and at home, his three cats keep him busy: Mrs. Doyle, Bingo, and Bluey.
We’re proud to have Alex’s unique background and skills on the Turfix team, and excited for all the knowledge and experience he brings to the table!
